It certainly felt as if spring had arrived today. Walking in woodlands, with a carpet of snowdrops signals that it is the end of winter and the start of the season of new life. I love the vitality of spring, the new growth and the sense that the world is waking from a long, deep sleep. But it is the boldness of the snowdrop (Galanthus), the new life sitting proudly against decayed matter on the woodland floor, which I find so beautiful. Contrast is such a wonderful thing!
